Defined as the loners and dreamers of the great apes orangutans live very solitary lives with the exception of the interaction between mother & child. Due to the fact that there is no group support system once they are adults orangutans have the longest childhood of all of the great apes. They stay with their mother up until 8 years of age giving the young time to understand how to find food up among the tree canopy. Infants are usually carried continuously for the first year of their life.
