Herend China Elk Reserve Collection
This figurine was designed by sculptor Janos Toth and introduced in 1957. A very popular figurine in its original natural coloration it is now available for the first time in a shaded brown fishnet style. The elk figurine appears to be engaging in a behavior known as bugling which happens during the mating season (also known as the rut). Bugling is a very distinctive vocalization which begins deep and resonant and then becomes a high pitched squeal before ending in a succession of grunts. Similar to a preening peacock this bugling serves to attract females during the very competitive mating season. While one can only guess as to this figurines success he can be confident he looks his best since 19 artists took over 18 hours to create his powerful appearance.
